Basil from FlyFM will be counting down the Top 10 songs from the local scene and with your votes “Same Way I Do” just might make its way into the charts. Superbar EP is Out

Superbar CDs are out, come get your copy at our gig or from any of us personally. Our EP has five songs:
- Dreams
- Out of Body
- Same Way I Do
- Rollercoaster
- Worth a Bet
Produced by Greg Henderson, co-produced by Sen Kiat and Chak.
The album cover depicts all of us trapped inside a room, trying to push our way through a door. Hence the title, “Someone Open The Door an Let Me Outta Here”
In a few days you’ll also be able to download the songs from our website by joining as a member, and you’ll also get access to all our demos, home recordings and more.

Someone Open A Door and Let Me Outta Here!
That’s the title of our upcoming EP, as announced on 8TV’s Quickie last night.
Quick props to Rina, Rita, Idora and Aaron for having us on!
Yup, after 4 years, we’ve finally gotten off our asses and recorded 5 measly songs.
Well, perhaps measly might have been how they started, but under the hand of producer/philosopher extraodinaire, Greg Henderson, we’ve actually come up with 5 songs that we reckon might actually kick some ass. They are -
1. Dreams - One of the first songs the band ever wrote and played together. This was way back when me and Bala were still playing with Jir & Judson. It’s hardly changed since, but it was always one of our best tracks, about needing the support of the people around you to achieve your dreams. To all the current and past members of Superbar - this song’s for you guys. GROUP HUG PEOPLE! GROUP HUG!
2. Out of Body - The easiest song we ever wrote, and incidentally my current favourite. Ironically, it’s about finding it hard to talk to people. . It was written in three sessions at Akarkarya (nice studio in DU, although the snorkeling mike effect is damn irritating), and tightened to a T by SK.
3. Same Way I Do - Our signature break-up song. This was actually the first song we produced with Greg H when we came in finalists at the Heineken Thirst Studio competition last year. Needless to say, he did a great job with it. Also one of the hardest songs for me to sing
4. Rollercoaster - Another oldie for us. I wrote this song years before I even joined the band. Thus the rather corny lyrics, which i’ve relegated in my mind as self-conscious pop instead. It’s a lie. You read it here. Quite the popular favourite though, having reached #3 on XFresh, and staying on those charts for a good three months. Also #1 on MusicCanteen. Yea, i’m bragging. Ok, will stop now.
5. Worth A Bet - Our spanking newborn. This slightly lovey sing-a-long was collecting dust for ages till we finally found something interesting to do with it. Greg’s added a little Lion Sleeps Tonight bit that we love, making this the band’s new current favourite song (as is every song that’s new with us). Officially endorsed by Alaling! intergalacticgalacticgalactic.blogspot.com/
Well, that’s that for this time around. The CD’s already done, and is into duplication now, so cross those fingers and hope to see a copy at a gig near you!
Big props to anna-rina and Jia Wen for the photography and album art, as well as being two polar opposite people that we absolutely loveeeeeeeeEEeee ![]()
Updates on the upcoming EP
The good news is we’ve got “same way i do”, “out of body” and “rollercoaster” out of the way, and they are sounding awesome! Don’t get us wrong, we’re proud of the demos recorded at Senzr Studio but this takes our sound to a whole new level.
We’re got three more tracks to go for the EP, one of which would probably be a brand new track which we’ve never performed in public before. Gotta check with Chak on that one, cos he’s the man. Anyway, its called “worth a bet” *i think*, trying to nail down a motown-ish vibe to it. The band kinda likes where the song is heading.
Anyway, i’m out.
suren for superbar
Numere Uno En Cantimplora de Música
Just a few days ago at the Assumption Ball (Sounds like a weird japanese gadget, we know), we were just jokingly calling Reshmonu No.4, since his song, Superfine, was No.4 on the XfreshFM charts.
Yes, we’ve been No.3 for some time now. And it was a garage (upstairs bedroom to be precise) recording which we did at Sen Kiat’s house almost a year ago. To be honest, we found out totally by accident that we were even on the charts. We submitted our demo for the song to Xfresh a while back, and then our exdrummer told us casually one day that he’d been hearing our song 5 times a day on radio.
So today, I was clearing up my iTunes folder, and I found the old musiccanteen Top Ten countdown (hosted by the excellent DJ Simon) where we were featured with our song Same Way I Do, and suddenly thought to check the website to see how the song was doing.
So I opened up a browser, typed [www.musiccanteen.com], waited a few seconds for the funky flash animations to load and glanced down to the Top Ten Weekly Downloads to look for Same Way I Do.
There were a couple of Pete Teo songs, a Jason Lo one, and of course, Mei Chern, who’s been there for yonks. Then my eyes finally drew level on the number one song for the week.
Rollercoaster.
Wait a sec. Don’t we have a song by that…
HOLY SHIT!!
Superbar is now number one on musiccanteen.
And this wasn’t for previews either (although we’re number three on that chart too). People have actually been paying good money (ok, It’s less than one US dollar, but that’s only cos of currency issues) for our music!
HOLY SHIT!!
Maybe next month, I’ll accidentally visit www.rickdees.com for fun.
You never know.

Heineken Thirst Studio 2006 - we’re finalists!
Last Monday was a pretty big turning point for the band. Chak got a call saying we made it to the next round of Heineken Thirst Studio 2006. Only 10 acts, 4 rock bands & 6 dance acts made it, and the winner gets to fly to London to work with Paul Epworth (produced Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm). So, all the hard work we put in over the past 2 weeks (playing a couple of shows as well as trying to get some tracks recorded) was put to a final test last Monday night (8pm) at a closed audition at Zouk.
By around 11pm, everyone had performed in front of the judges and they had shaved the list from ten to six, knocking out 2 bands & 2 dance acts in the process. After the final results were announced at about 1.30 am, Cosmicspacemunkys came out on top and will be flying to London to work with Epworth and we finished as finalists along with fellow family band, Lied. Lied put on an absolutely rocking show that night.
As finalists, we’ll be performing at the Heineken Thirst Studio Perform event, Zouk on September 8th. On top of that, we’ll also be working with an acclaimed local producer in the next couple of weeks. We’re pretty psyched right now cos things are looking fucking awesome for the band at the moment. There are a couple of more announcements on the way, but we’ll keep them to ourselves for the time being.
Some coverage on the event here and here.
